Joe Biden is afraid of something
I know this is off of my normal topic…but I think this is important
From the NY Post:
Joe Biden wonders whether Barack Obama is qualified to be commander-in-chief.
“Mark my words,” Biden warned Sunday at a Democratic fund-raiser. “It will not be six months [after the inauguration] before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy.”
Then he added, “Watch. We’re going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
Now, here’s where it gets scary.
Obama’s “gonna need your help to use your influence within the community to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
He’s going to need help?
Terrific.
What’s particularly disturbing is Biden’s Kennedy analogy.
For those who don’t recall, it was a scant five months after JFK became president that Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev took his measure.
Kennedy had just bungled the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba, then went off to a summit in Vienna – where Khruschev determined that the rookie chief executive could be had.
Two months later, construction began on the Berlin Wall, precipitating a crisis that nearly led to a US-Soviet shooting war in Europe.
And 14 months after that came the Cuban Missile Crisis – when nuclear Armageddon was only barely averted.
Is Biden saying that America’s current enemies – sorely aware of Obama’s inexperience – plan to test a President Obama with similar crises, to see what he’s made of?
Sure seems like it.
But what if Obama is still on the wrong side of the learning curve when this major international crisis hits?
More important: What if he makes the wrong decision – as even Joe Biden suggests he might?
After all, Obama was wrong about the troop surge in Iraq.
And he was wrong in his initial response to Russia’s invasion of Georgia – when he urged the victimized nation to “show restraint.”
And he was wrong when he said he would gladly sit down unconditionally with people like Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – the very people his own running-mate now says are planning to “test” him.
As John McCain said yesterday, “We don’t want a president who invites testing from the world . . . The next president won’t have time.”
Little wonder, then, that Biden later admitted that he “probably shouldn’t have said all this.”
But why not, Joe?
It’s doubtless all true.
And it’s much better to get it all out now – rather than wait until it’s too late to do anything about it.
Does this disturb anyone? I think he is right, but who is generating this crisis? Comment, DIGG the story and stumble PLEASE!
Joe Biden wonders whether
Iranian in nature.
Remember how I said Obama would be Carter? We will have a crisis, look at gas prices. They are plummeting, when this happens OPEC loses money. OPEC does not like this.
Iran is already on his “we want Iraq” high horse from the 70′s and 80′s, they also want nukes, and we will be cutting into their GDP. I’m not suggesting we will go to war, but diplomatic tensions are going to be severely strained (moreso than now) in the Middle East and the prime target is Iran.
Gingrich ’12
you so smrt
Meh.
There are only a limited set of possibilities. I’d say the next most likely event would be an economic meltdown, and I mean a meltdown of epic proportions – stemming fro mthe failed bailout.
Scares the shit outta me too, Matt…
It scares me. I don’t want any more of a war than we are already in. My fiance is in the Air Force. We’re getting married this May. If something happens to call my husband away from home to serve someone like Barack OBAMA… I’m scared to think of what could happen.
so..that girl…would you rather him serve the interests of Bush, Cheney, Palin, and McCain?
Not defending Obama here (why did you capitalize his last name, why the hell does everyone do that? or say it with emphasis…what the hell?), but do the NeoCons have better plans for the military sheep?
I don’t think that Biden meant he won’t be able to handle it. I think he was just saying that the next president will be tested much like JFK. VP nominees always refer to the person they are running with as “The Next President”. Joe Biden probably figures ANYONE who is the next president will be tested big. He said Obama because that’s what they say during the campaign.
Honestly I’d rather have Obama be the one to deal with such a crisis. McCain and god forbid Palin react too harshly. Palin already said She’d go to war with Korea or something if there were reason. Those two would jump to war a LOT sooner than Obama and be more likely to end us up in a nuclear crisis.
As for sitting down without preconditions I still don’t see why everyone see’s that as wrong. You have to talk about things in order to fix them. Refusing to talk to someone unless they go by your rules isn’t going to fix much with a lot of countries. It’s seen as outright disrespectful. Obama being open to discussing things with ANYONE would be a plus in a situation like this is my opinion.
A lot of people also think that Obama will be assassinated. There’s a lot of crazy’s in this country. The fact he’s black makes a lot of people angry, also his views on immigration. Not to mention him being so liberal really pisses off all the psycho religious fundamentalists in America.
Biden talks a lot. Always has. They always complained how his colleagues can never get him to shut up and his speeches go on and on. I think that leads to him blabbering out things most politicians wouldn’t. But it also shows he has some honesty when he does it. Biden is a very smart man and I’ve always liked him. I do wish he’d keep some of his thoughts to himself at times though.
Just my two cents. X3
And @ Matt and THAT Girl.
If my Fiance were in the military I;d much rather him be being served orders from “OBAMA” than the current administration, McCain or Palin. Do people forget that he said we’d be in Iraq for 100 years? Or how quick Sarah Palin is to talk about attacking countries already?
Matt, they capitalize his name because a lot of Americans can’t handle the fact that it isn’t a White, Christian name. It’s almost as if they use it as an insult. It’s ignorant.
I agree with your post that Biden is talking about the Middle East when he’s talking about the current crisis being a “generated crisis”. The markets are reeling worldwide and oil has plummeted to US$65/barrel.
While I think most of the blame falls squarely on American overspending and the lack of regulation on its financial institutions – the fact that the repercussions are worldwide speaks to a more sinister side to all of this. Just as the financial crisis in 1997 could be attributed to Soros and his billion dollar campaign to manipulate currencies, the current crisis also speaks to big money orchestrating big moves.
I disagree thought that Biden is saying Obama is not ready. He’s just speaking his mind, that he knows its not going to be easy having a black man with a muslim name and background (I read Obama’s biography) leading a country that is in one of its worst crises.
I think it doesn’t matter that much who takes the reins- so long as the limbo ends so America can move ahead. People forget very easily that the Office of the President is only 1/3 of the entire government. Whether its Obama & Biden or McCain & Palin, it boils down to who are the consultants, the advisers, and ultimately, Congress, as to how the country actually charts forward.
Hahahaha I lol’d hard who is “they” that Biden refers too?
the same they it always is findle
