Frigga asks: Death and The Afterlife-An Atheists Perspective

in Atheism by on January 29th, 2009

Frigga responded to my last call for a muse with a question….I thought it was broad enough to make a short post about, thanks Frigga for the inspiration!

Frigga says:

I’m curious what your thoughts are on Afterlife.  What do you think happens?  What do most atheists think happens?  What do your others readers think happens?  Do you believe in near death experiences?  How about ghosts?

when-death-comesThe afterlife is one of those things where I can definitively say I don’t have an answer…I can even definitively say that NO ONE has an answer…I just don’t think it is possible, but I have thought about it before…of course. When I was a Christian I would often ponder about heaven and just how close I could be to God if he would allow me, I was convinced that heaven was a reality and that my seeking God on earth would help me be closer to him one day. Now that I have rejected that view of life it feels kind of silly to think about heaven and hell…so I generally don’t.

I have found a new timesuck: Yahoo Answers!

in Uncategorized by on January 25th, 2009

Last night I was doing…something, hell if I can remember, and I stumbled upon Yahoo! Answers and decided to answer a question regarding why one should or should not believe in god. Well, I gave an answer to that question and then browsed around for more interesting questions and before you know it I was addicted.

Since my account is still at level one I am limited to 20 answers per day but I find myself checking for new questions to answer and it drives me crazy. Go sign up it really is a lot of fun

Here is how it works:

Someone asks a question. Anyone with an answer writes up an answer for the question. Anyone that reads the questions can give the answer a thumbs up or down. The asker can either choose which answer is best and it gets featured at the top of the page, or the thumbs up eventually make something the best answer…Answers get you 2 points, questions take away 5 points, best answers give you 10 points and a thumbs up gets you 1 point.

It is rather addictive, thought I would share, if you join add me to your buddy list on my Profile

a quick note. Antivirus

in Uncategorized by on January 24th, 2009

Since I am spending my Saturday working my arse off cleaning viruses from computers that had no antivirus software I am going to officially whore my blog out to promote a product. THIS IS NOT A PAID POST. This is serious and you should do just as I say right now.

Remove any virus software you have unless it’s AVG, COMODO, or AVAST.

Go download Avast Antivirus Home Free edition from http://avast.com. Install it and register it…its free guys…and its good…it catches most everything and its cheaper than Norton’s bulky pile of crap.

then…just to be safe

go to http://malwarebytes.org and download MalwareBytes…do a full scan on your computer…i bet you 10 bucks you got something on there…and remove that stuff…THATS THE STUFF YOUR OLD ANTIVIRUS MISSED

NEXT: go to http://firefox.com and download firefox and never look at IE7 or 6 again…ever for any reason…they still have a huge security hole in them that you have to deal with which is where MOST of todays major viruses like Vondurante come from…do it

yea im a little miffed…but go do this

sorry for the brevity of this post…and the bad grammar

The Honeymoon: Back to Reality

in Uncategorized by on January 21st, 2009

Let me first say that the intent of this blog is not politics…I care about politics, I happen to love politics, but the purpose of this blog is religious freedom and the whole Christian to Atheist mindset..and other stuff of course.Political times, however, will call for more politically minded times and thusly my posts may take the occassional political twist, so I am sorry if that bugs any of my regular readers, I still value your time and will be back to the normal routine shortly.

Yesterday I got all sappy about Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony. Yesterday history was made and I am eternally greatful to have been alive to see this day. There is a time though when you have to get down to business, and that day is today. Today, we must talk policies and we MUST see Change.

Today: An Inauguration

in Politics by on January 20th, 2009

obama-hopeAt Noon today something will occur that I never thought I might see in my lifetime. A dream deferred will become a present reality. We may not be at the mountaintop, but finally now it will be something we can actually see.

Where I grew up, in Middle Georgia, nigger is a word I hear every single day of my life. It is a word that makes me cringe to hear or type. For some reason  white people in the south do not realize the pain and exclusion that such a word can hold for a group of people. Today I feel like finally, even though it won’t silence those people,  those people are a minority in this world and the kind of ignorance and hatred they represent is dying out with them. Maybe it’s the fact that I grew up here that suprises me so much about Barack Obama winning the Presidency, living here makes it seem like having an equality mindset is a rarity, but I never thought I would actually see this…it gives me great hope that there are more people like myself and my wife whom hate all the racism and ignorance that we have grown acustomed to in the society we have had to grow up in. Both my wife and I have always been ones to stand up against this inane attitude, but more often than not it is like talking to a brick wall about how we are all essentially the same inside…this is our chance to feel like we are no longer the underdogs in a fight like this…like maybe the things we have always believed in us are simply being proven now to the rest of society.
