After nearly 4 years of boycott from many members of the atheist and LGBT communities Chick-fil-a has finally softened it’s stance on homosexuality and agreed to stop sending money to anti-gay groups and lessen it’s discourse in the public sphere.
Previously I talked about how much our voice and our response to bigotry mattered, today I’m able to confirm that it does. Today I can tell you that it’s important to stand up for what’s right, even if there are hundreds of thousands of people against you, like we saw on August 1st, “Chick-fil-a Appreciation day” – the largest show of Christian unity to occur in my lifetime.
On Christian Unity
When this appreciation day happened I remember feeling enraged, saddened…for every gay kid that might ride by one of the restaurants to see all of those people unified for a purpose so intently set against them.
I posted this picture of the local Chick-fil-a, just down the road from where I work on the RagingRev.com Facebook page and a diatribe with it:
How should we approach CFA now?
With caution. With remembrance. And with thanks – for moving forward.
Let’s not forget where they came from, and let’s not think they’ve made it all the way. It’s also not a time to forget about those crowds of people, unified for one purpose.
This is only a very small victory. This is the result of financial pressure, money…we haven’t won until Cathy and cohorts practice love and support these rights…but this is a start.
